Friendship All The Way

    One question many of you might be thinking is-When was FriendzForLife born? Now that's something even we admins don't know. Confused? Well, let us explain.

    To tell you everything, we have to go back a few years (1999 to be precise) when 'GoForFriends Intranet' was started by three young friends who wanted to create a personal space where their close friends could meet and share their views on life in a sort of a virtual community. For those of you who are new to the cyber world, an intranet is like a private website where you can control who views the contents and who does not. These three guys were Sheikh Mohammed Abdul Alim, Ramashis Biswas, Prithwish Mukherjee. Unfortunately, the thing never really took off and after a few months, 'Intranets.com', the site hosting our intranet decided to go paid and our brainchild-'GoForFriends Intranet' was dissolved.

    We have often thought what was the reason behind the failure of the intranet. And the best answer that we have got so far is that it was way ahead of its time. At that time people were not as net-savvy as they are now and so they could not accept this concept of a virtual community. They thought of it as an escapist attitude on our part. But we have seen that not everyone of us is strong enough to face the real world. They need a place where they could forget all their real life problems and keep their mind relaxed and at the same time interact with their near and dear friends.

    Anyway let's get back to the point. The next few years were full of hard work for our board exams. We lost almost all contact with Alim (save his phone number, and even then calls were few and far between). Though our first attempt at creating this sort of virtual community had been washed away, the idea stayed afloat in our minds even through the rough seas that life is all about. A few months back, Prithwish came across a hacking-related site (that's why we shouldn't probably divulge the name). While going through its history, he got the idea that maybe they could also start a group like the site first started out with. He called up Ramashis and Arijit Sehanobish and they both supported the idea. Thus was born 'FriendzForLife Group' under 'Yahoo! Groups'. It was founded on 7th January,2005.

    The group was running fine enough. The number of members had quickly swelled up to 70 within two months. Though it was enough to reunite quite a few long-lost pals and help others keep in touch, Dhruva Ghosh showed us how vastly insufficient the message board was for posting serious topics and discussions and it was he who started the 'FriendzForLife Forum' on 23rd February,2005.

    That's all as far as our history is concerned. Now its time to look towards the future. Everything depends on how well you accept our hand of friendship. Everything depends on YOU!
